Pee Dee Area Council
The Pee Dee Area Council is chartered by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America to deliver the Scouting programs to the families in the eleven northeast counties of South Carolina. "The Pee Dee Area Council was organized in 1928 and incorporated in South Carolina in 1943. It is registered with the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization." The Council operates out of the Henry Johnson Service Center in Florence, SC. It owns and operates Camp Coker located in Chesterfield County. It employs ten full time employees and various seasonal employees during the summer camping season. The full time staff includes a Scout Executive/CEO, four District Executives, Office Manager/Accounting Specialist, Registrar, Trading Post Manager/Secretary, and Camp Ranger. The Pee Dee Area Council is lead by a volunteer Executive Board that includes a Council President, Council Commissioner, Executive Vice President, Vice President of Program, Vice President of Fund Development, Vice President of Membership, Vice President of Properties, and Council Treasurer.

Districts Atakwa District serves Dillon, Florence, and Williamsburg Counties. Each district has a full time professional staff member called a District Executive who supports the Scouting efforts in their territory. Each district also has a committee of volunteers that provides various types of service and support to the individual units. Pee Dee Area Council Facts Served over 4,100 youth in 2007. Over 1,300 registered volunteer leaders helped deliver the Scouting program in 2007. In 2007, 73 young men in earned Scouting's highest honor, the Eagle Scout rank In 2007, the council service center was renamed the Henry Johnson Service Center in honor of Henry Johnson of Lake City, President of W. Lee Flowers Co., for his dedication and support to the ideals of Scouting and to the Pee Dee Area Council. In 2007, a Boy Scout statue and 3 flagpoles were added to the front of the Henry Johnson Service Center in honor of Edwin Malloy of Cheraw for his commitment to Scouting and support of the Pee Dee Area Council. In 2007, a $185,000 renovation of the dining hall at Camp Coker was completed. |
